On Tuesday, February 24, 2009, from 2PM-4PM, Joshua Betancourt with UBS Financial Services is sponsoring a business law seminar centered on business asset protection.  This includes protecting intellectual property from competitors & current & former employees, employment agreements including non-competes, non-disclosures, severance, hiring & separation.  Obviously, I’ll be speaking about the labor & employment law concerns.  Boris Umansky of national IP law firm Leydig, Voit & Mayer, will be presenting on intellectual property, copyright, patent & trademark law.  Boris is a former attorney with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO).  Joshua will focus on business financial asset protection strategies.  The seminar is free; food & drinks will be served.  It’s at UBS’s 38th floor conference room at UBS Tower, 1 N. Wacker Drive, Chicago.  For building security reasons, prior registration is required & may be done via me at cak1@charlesakrugel.com.  Also, if you click here, you can access Leydig, Voit Mayer’s PDF invitation to the seminar.

The City of Chicago’s Department of Business Affairs & Licensing has arranged my 5th labor & employment law seminar with them. This free seminar will be on Friday, February 20, 2009, from 9:30am-11:00am at City Hall, 121 N. LaSalle St., Room 805. This will be largely Q&A & round-table discussion & may focus on the changes in our various governments (federal & state) & how this will affect employers.  Additionally, attendees will get a 20-page handout summarizing 55+ federal, state and local labor & employment laws, & examining a variety of human resources related legal issues (to see a copy of an earlier handout click here). Thanks to the Department of Business Affairs & Licensing (especially Alfredo Camarena) for organizing this. If you would like to attend just let me know or contact Alfredo Camarena at 312-744-5344 or alfredo.camarena@cityofchicago.org.
