Hi. Thanks for your website. My mom was born in Chicago and grew up there and has many memories that she talks to us about. Today I decided to try to gather some pictures online of places in Chicago for mom and I ran across your website. I’m going to show it to my mom and see if she ever went to your Dad’s pharmacy and maybe she’ll remember a story or two. I’m going to make an album of places my mom worked and went to school and other places she may just have a story about. Some places I’ve heard many stories about and need pictures of are: the Grand Theater on North Avenue–mom was the popcorn girl there and there were people who wouldn’t eat the popcorn unless they knew my mom made it because she always put an extra squirt of butter in with the popcorn, lol. Kresge’s Dime store-mom worked there. REA Express-mom worked there with Gary Senise’s dad there.

If you have pictures of any of those places, please let me have a copy.

I’m a retrired Massachusetts State Trooper and I have had a life long interest in the history of crime. I’m currently doing research regarding organized crime and I’m reading “The Rise and Fall of the Jewish Gangster in America by Albert Fried.

Fried discusses the early Jewish street gangs and he says that in the early 1900′s Maxwell St was referred to as “bloody Maxwell”. (page 90)

I was searching the web regarding “Maxwell St” and “Chicago” and I came upon the photograph of you great-great grandfather and your website.

Although there is no connection to my research, other than the street name, the photo was interesting

My father worked for Wishnick’s Pharmacy on Noth Avenue. (Minnie and Mickie Wishnick) in the 40′s, 50′s and 60′s untill he purchased Addison Pharmacy at the corner of Addison and Central in 1962.My Dad is well at 90, started as a clerk at Wishnick’s and after the war became a Pharmacist. What great memories. Dad’s building got bought out by ther Demarco brothers in the late 70′s. I wonder if you’re related to the Wishnicks.
