As usual, my seminar will focus on understanding labor & employment law & human resources from a business’ perspective. This is at Chicago’s City Hall, 121 N. Thanks to Illinois WorkNet of Northern Cook County & Crain’s Chicago Business, I’ll be presenting on social media & legal & HR issues as part of Crain’s Chicago Small Business Week. This will be at IL WorkNet’s Arlington Heights office on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, from 8:30 AM – 11:30 Am, 723 W. Algonquin Rd., AH, IL 60005 (this is the Illinois Department of Employment Security office). Additional thanks to WorkNet’s Mohammed Faheem & Deb Lawrence (co-presenter) for setting this up. I’ll be presenting an hour to 90-minute long seminar on the employee versus independent contractor classifications. Attendees will learn about the laws affecting employee classification, & how companies can avoid simple mistakes & litigation. My presentation runs from 2PM until about 3 or 3:30PM. The Business Event takes place on August 25th, 2011, from 1PM-7PM. at the Holiday Inn Chicago North Shore in Skokie. The event will feature 100 vendor tables, 30 employers, breakout sessions, guest speakers, a mentoring program for job seekers and business owners, a VIP reception, and up to 2,500 attendees.

Only a VIP reception featuring U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-9, Illinois Lt. Governor Sheila Simon, U.S. Rep. Robert Dold, R-10, Better Business Bureau President Steve Bernas and Crain’s Chicago Business Publisher David Snyder costs money to attend.

I’ve got three labor & employment law & HR presentations coming up in June & July.

The June presentations concern social media issues in the workplace and how various government agencies are hammering on employers for monitoring and regulating employee usage of social media like Facebook. On June 1 & June 8, 7:45 AM, I’m putting on 2 such seminars run by IL Worknet & Dept. of Commerce & Economic Opportunity. The 6/1 presentation is in Arlington Heights & the 6/8 presentation is in Evanston.
