Here’s the handouts for my 1/18/12 Understanding Labor & Employment Law from a Business Perspective at Chicago’s City Hall. The first document is a 17-page overview (PDF) of labor & employment law & HR issues, including a discussion of independent contractor versus employee issues, overtime eligible versus overtime exempt issues, what can & shouldn’t be asked in the hiring process & unemployment compensation. The second document is a 10-slide PowerPoint containing points of emphasis & some of my opinions regarding the human capital market. Here’s the PowerPoint as a PDF.

On 1/18/12 from 3PM–4:30PM, I’ll be doing my “umpteenth” presentation for Chicago’s Department of Business Affairs. As usual, my seminar will focus on understanding labor & employment law & human resources from a business’ perspective. This is at Chicago’s City Hall, 121 N. Thanks to Illinois WorkNet of Northern Cook County & Crain’s Chicago Business, I’ll be presenting on social media & legal & HR issues as part of Crain’s Chicago Small Business Week. This will be at IL WorkNet’s Arlington Heights office on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, from 8:30 AM – 11:30 Am, 723 W. Algonquin Rd., AH, IL 60005 (this is the Illinois Department of Employment Security office). Additional thanks to WorkNet’s Mohammed Faheem & Deb Lawrence (co-presenter) for setting this up.
