On 7/25, I’ll be doing my 2nd webinar for Avant Resources. This will be a comprehensive analysis of social media & workplace policies. Emphasis will be placed on how an employer can establish ownership of social media accounts & content, & how employers can manage what employees post on social media about their employer. This incorporates recent court & National Labor Relations Board decisions (the NLRB has inserted itself as a regulator of social media content for non-union as well as union businesses). Such cases include Eagle v. Edcomm, NLRB vs. Costco, Target, Skinsmart & United Hispanics of Buffalo. Info. is here & below.

Social Media Legalities and Workplace Policies

What Can Employers Do to Manage Their Employee’s Social Media Activities

Thursday, July 25 at 3:00pm ET | (2:00pm CT, 1:00pm MT, 12:00pm PT)

Duration: 90 minutes

Social media in the workplace is easily misused by employees and polices are often misunderstood by HR and Management. While the concept of social media may be relatively new, many of the same laws and rules of workplace communication still apply. Moreover, federal and state courts and agencies have issued new, but difficult to understand guidance and decisions on social media, ownership and content.

Join Charles Krugel, an experienced labor law attorney, as he examines what factors to consider and issues to look for when managing your employee’s involvement in social media. He will provide a review of the areas of liability for businesses and how they can avoid or minimize their social media risk.

This webinar will be an examination of what courts and other governmental regulatory agencies say about social media policies and practices in the workplace. We will have an open discussion of whether or not a business should have a social media policy in place for its employees, and if so, suggested workplace policies and practices will be provided.

Questions answered during this 90-minute webinar will include:

  • What policies should management avoid implementing?
  • What are the courts and government agencies are doing to regulate workplace communication, ownership of social media accounts and employee collective activity?
  • What factors are courts considering when determining the monetary value of a business’ social media?
  • What can and can’t my business do to regulate its social media content relative to the workforce?
  • How much does it can cost a business to defend its social media presence from employees?
  • What is the best way a business can best defend itself?
  • How are labor unions using a business’ social media practices against that very same company?
  • How do I implement a legally sound social media policy?
