On 11/15/13, from 9:30 AM – 11 Am, I’ll be giving an understanding labor & employment law for businesses presentation at Chicago’s City Hall, Department of Business Affairs, Room 801, 121 N. LaSalle St.  It’s free to attend. This will be a questions & answer based discussion concerning labor & employment law & human resources management issues. To register, please contact Geralyn Catino @ 312-744-5504 or geralyn.catino@cityofchicago.org.

Regarding the FMLA, IMO, this is one of the more confusing employment laws for employers to understand & implement. Whereas many of our employment-related civil rights & labor laws are confusing because of varied & contradicting court & agency interpretations & rules (e.g., EEOC, DOL & NLRB), the FMLA was confusing from the get-go, even as written by Congress.  It’s a labyrinthian law to begin with, even without DOL or judicial interpretation. Hopefully, my presentation will simplify this law for business owners & operators.  I’ll post my handout from this presentation shortly.
